Why Talk About Church Administration?: An Unlikely Path To Actually Getting Stuff Done In Church

Church Administration is quite underrated. There is so much that happens between Monday and Saturday and even on Sunday that the casual congregation is unaware of. If there’s little administration happening, the Pastor may become bogged down with things that have nothing to do be building up and edifying the congregation. I use the phrase ‘Church Administration’ instead of ‘Church Management’ so it doesn’t cause pastors’ ears to perk up when it’s being mentioned. Most pastors feel they have to be a part of Church management, like you’re encroaching on their space, however, once you say Church administration, they’re less jumpy. Not to criticize, but certain Church bodies didn’t fully explore all the five-fold ministries and got stuck on the pastoral role. You may want to contribute at your local Church, but not necessarily from the pulpit. The Church office may be the ideal place for you.

Here are a few examples of what you can actually do as an administrator of a Church:

  • Accounting
    • Budgeting
    • Finance
  • Event Planning
    • Events and activities calendar
  • Membership management
    • Maintain a database of members
  • Marketing
    • Automate communication
  • Produce content
    • Newsletters
    • Podcasts
    • Sermon audio and video
  • Brand building
    • Social media campaign
  • Manage logistics
  • Vendor management
    • Supplies
    • Service providers
  • Facilities management
